MacBusinessSuite compared with other tools

MacBusinessSuite is one native Mac app for projects, CRM, time tracking and invoicing, with the data on your Mac and support for companies working in several countries. The comparisons below put it next to nine products that Mac users often consider, from invoicing apps and German bookkeeping services to CRM and time trackers. Each one is built from the vendor's own pages and names its sources.

The comparisons

What each product covers

Four areas of running a small business, plus where the app runs, where the data lives and how far it reaches beyond one country. Not documented means the vendor's pages do not say, not that the feature is missing.

As of October 2026. Other products from their vendors' official pages, MacBusinessSuite from its documentation.

One suite or several tools?

Most products in these comparisons cover one or two areas well. Daylite is a CRM, Harvest and Toggl Track are time trackers, Lexware Office, sevdesk and Papierkram focus on invoicing and German bookkeeping, and Zoho One bundles many separate cloud apps. MacBusinessSuite keeps projects, CRM, time tracking and invoicing in one app and one data store, so an inquiry becomes a project and its hours become an invoice without an export in between.

That is not always the better choice. If you need complete bookkeeping with filing through ELSTER, sync across a team's devices, or the widest range of e-invoice formats, another product on this list may fit better, and each comparison says where.

Built for companies working across borders

Several of the compared services are built for the German market, with German hosting, German tax rules and, in some cases, euro only. MacBusinessSuite is built for companies with customers or entities in several countries: documents in 15 languages and several currencies, ECB exchange rates, several companies with their own country and tax regime, OSS, reverse charge and US sales tax per state with rates you maintain.

Native on the Mac, data on the Mac

Of the nine products, GrandTotal and Daylite are native Mac apps, and GrandTotal keeps the data in a local file the way MacBusinessSuite does. Harvest and Toggl Track have Mac apps for time tracking that work with their cloud accounts. The others run mainly in the browser and keep the data in the vendor's cloud, which needs an account and an internet connection but allows access from many devices; Zoho Invoice also offers a Mac download.

Questions and answers

What is a good alternative to GrandTotal on the Mac?

It depends on what you need beyond invoicing. MacBusinessSuite is also a native Mac app with local data and adds projects, a CRM and a built-in timer. If you need the widest range of e-invoice formats and Peppol sending, GrandTotal itself covers more.

Is there a lexoffice or sevdesk alternative that runs natively on the Mac?

MacBusinessSuite is a native Mac app with local data that writes quotes, invoices and e-invoices and exports DATEV, UStVA and ZM data. Unlike Lexware Office and sevdesk, it does not file the VAT return through ELSTER and does not do complete bookkeeping.

Why are there no prices in these comparisons?

Prices change often and differ by country. Each vendor shows its current prices on its own pages, and the comparisons describe only the pricing model, such as subscription or licence.

How current are these comparisons?

All facts were checked against the vendors' official pages in October 2026. If something has changed, write to hello@digitalfreedom.co.za and the page will be corrected.

How these comparisons are made

Each comparison uses only the vendor's own website, help center and, where one exists, App Store listing, read in October 2026. MacBusinessSuite is described from its documentation, limits included. Prices are left out on purpose: they change often and differ by country, and the vendors show the current ones on their own pages.

All product names on these pages are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the products. MacBusinessSuite and DigitalFreedom Global LLC are not affiliated with any of these vendors.
